Voices of the Southern Ocean: A Nipaluna/Hobart Anthology – Book Design
Hobart joined UNESCO’s Creative Cities Network in November 2023, earning City of Literature status in recognition of its vibrant creative sector and the rich diversity of its storytellers.
The first initiative under this banner, Voices of the Southern Ocean: A Nipaluna/Hobart Anthology, showcases a collection of works from local authors reflecting on the Antarctic and Southern Ocean. These pieces explore the profound connection to this wild, icy expanse and its quietly mysterious inhabitants, highlighting the urgent need for its preservation.
Through this anthology, we aim to amplify local voices and elevate global awareness of these fragile, vital regions, leveraging the reach of the Creative Cities Network to inspire action and appreciation.
The book's design mimicked the vastness of the ocean and highlighted the illustrations used throughout the book. This was produced on a shoestring budget: a simple black ink digital printed book on coloured stock.
