Scholé – Brand Design

The Greek word for leisure, scholé, is where the Latin scola comes from — the root of words related to learning and education. For the ancients, scholé meant more than spare time; it was time set aside for creativity, curiosity, and getting absorbed in what you’re doing.

We’ve chosen the grasshopper as a symbol of this spirit.

Like an accent mark that shifts the sound of a word, the grasshopper adds a different tone — a small change with a big effect. At Scholé, it invites you to see nature, food, and your connection to both in a new way.

A green grasshopper suggests a fresh start, cheerfulness, and a sense of freedom. It’s a reminder of growth and the energy that comes with beginning something new. It also suits Luke, the founder — whose approach brings playfulness and imagination to this venture. While Aesop’s fables paint the grasshopper as lazy, we see its play as part of the process — not a flaw, but something worth celebrating. The grasshopper also hints at a return to nature and a commitment to organic, mindful farming.
